Guest article by Dr. Johanna Turner
The goal of this article is to help you eliminate inflammation from your body as quickly as possible. In order to do that there are a few things we must first cover and understand completely. I will define what inflammation is and how it negatively affects the body. I will also cover ways someone can develop inflammation, and what the traditional medical treatment is for inflammation. Finally I will discuss natural ways to reduce inflammation as quickly as possible.
What is inflammation? Inflammation is actually a great thing, because it’s a normal response in your body, and it helps heal the body. The body produces white blood cells and other chemicals that protect it from foreign invaders such as bacteria and viruses. These chemicals are what we know as inflammation. Where inflammation becomes a problem is when we have too much in our body, and when it hangs out for an extended period of time becoming chronic inflammation. An influx in inflammation can be due to things such as allergies, autoimmune disease, heart disease, poor diet and even cancer.
The traditional or medical way to treat inflammation is generally through anti-inflammatory drugs. These drugs will reduce down the inflammation that you feel temporarily. However, the inflammation is there for a reason, and our body also produces inflammation to slow us down and protect ourselves from further injury or disease. If we take away the discomfort temporarily then we will continue to over use and mistreat our bodies into further injury or disease. Not to mention there are harmful side effects to anti-inflammatory drugs. Is there a better way to treat inflammation?
Absolutely! There are a number of ways to naturally reduce painful or disease causing inflammation. Nutrition is a great place to start. Foods that we can eat to zap inflammation are things such as omega-3 fats, pineapples which has something called bromelain in it which is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits, turmeric is a spice you can cook with that will kick inflammation out of the body. You will also want to avoid foods that promote the growth of inflammation such as grains, sugars, trans fats, and processed foods. Fitness is a great way to reduce inflammation naturally without negative and harmful side effects associated with medications. Get out and get moving, 30 minutes a day for at least 3-5 days a week is enough for most people to gain the health benefits of exercise. Drink plenty of water. Water is going to help flush out inflammation when our bodies are done using it, and it will flush out other harmful toxins. The average person should be drinking half their body weight in ounces of water on a daily basis. Finally, making sure you have proper nerve flow. Our brain and nerves control everything in our body; inflammation can slow this process down. In return having a decrease in nerve flow will not allow the body to flush out inflammation as quickly as possible. Overall make sure you are eating low inflammatory foods, moving your body, drinking plenty of water, and getting optimal nerve flow.
