After an illness that landed me in the ER where they told me I had a virus and sent me home with a prescription for ibuprofen, I turned to natural remedies to help expedite the exit of the virus from my body.
During this illness I realized that when it comes to stubborn or serious health concerns, I tend to seek out Chinese herbal formulas. Chinese herbal formulas have been used for thousands of years to address health concerns. The Materia Medica of Chinese medicine has many scientifically confirmed antivirals, some of the most powerful of which are found in popular patent formulas such as Golden Flower’s Viola Clear Fire Formula. This is the formula that I used. Timely, proper administration of this anti-viral formula can successfully shorten the course of colds or flu and significantly reduce the symptoms caused by many viruses. This formula is available through Acupuncturist offices and Doctors of Oriental Medicine (DOM).
Another anti-viral remedy that I use is oregano essential oil. I add a few drops to a carrier oil to dilute it (it should not be applied to the skin full strength) and rub it onto the soles of my feet at bedtime. Oregano oil is capable of destroying both RNA and DNA of many viruses. The oil destroys the virus’s outer coating without harming your cells.
There are many natural remedies, foods and other techniques that can enhance immune function, but in the case of battling common viruses specifically, elderberry has been shown to be highly effective. Elderberries have been used for centuries to treat colds and flu. It just so happens that a member of the HerbalWise team, Anne Dort, makes elderberry syrup. I took a teaspoon of Herbal Annie’s Elderberry Syrup a few times a day (it tastes yummy too).
This is just a sampling of anti-viral herbs and remedies that I used when I was seriously ill with a virus, but there are many others that can be used depending on your symptoms. I hope this information is helpful. Feel free to share any comments or questions you have below.
Warm regards,
Deserie
